As a continuation of my OSCARS 2014 celebration, I give you the rest of my random rankings (CLICK ON PICS FOR BETTER RESOLUTION):
I’m a huge fan of beards, especially when they’re on people like Captain America, Chris Evans. I’ve been a fan of Chris’ since he played an albeit cheesy version of Johnny Storm in 2005’s Fantastic Four (I didn’t hate it as much as everyone else did) and his charisma has kept me interested since. Filling in for a missing Andrew Garfield, Chris did a pretty awesome job just showing up in this simply stated satin-lapel suit and tie combo. Tie: Goes to Bradley Cooper for rocking one of my favorite bowtie looks of the season and for looking adorable in the “tweet that broke Twitter” (above).
Over 40 Dudebro(s)
There were many men that brought in some great looks this year, including an upsurge of blue suits (Jason Sudeikis, Kevin Spacey, and Jim Carrey, to name a few) but I have to give this to Irish band U2, specifically The Edge for sporting rhinestone studded black lapels. With his trademark beanie, the look was high fashion and edgy (no pun intended) without being overly feminine. The rest of the band worked in their share of individual shine too.
Best Afterparty [Better than the Awards] Look
While Jennifer Lawrence has been doing an amazing job showcasing her easy-going, “just like us” persona to the world, her fashion since she signed with Dior has left some of us feeling like she could be doing better. That’s the problem with signing for a national campaign. While she looks amazing in it (featured below) her red-carpet looks have been sort of flat and have left her restricted. Her actual Vanity Fair Oscar Party outfit had MUCH more personality in it and showcased her youth and sex appeal.
Best Random Invitee
Like every year the Kardashians are invited to anything, I have to question who in the Academy decided to invite Jessica Biel. While I have nothing against the 7th Heaven actress, she’s really not been on anyone’s radar since she married Justin Timberlake in 2012, and even that’s a stretch. In one of the best uses of celebrity social media, Jessica chronicled her process of getting ready and heading to the show, making sure everyone (including her haters) know she was not only personally invited to the show, but she was going to look amazing in Chanel going to it too.
“I’d Do Both of You” Couple
I was never crazy over Channing Tatum back in his modelling days, where people were salivating over his barely there skivvy photoshoots. He didn’t win me over in his first foray into acting in Step Up either (ironically where he met his wife-to-be). I didn’t start to like Channing until I saw how funny and absolutely charming and nice he was and how cute he was with wife Jenna Dewan. This win goes to Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra because of how sweet they are as a pair and because of how appropriately stylish they always are. Jenna’s Reem Acra cream number was like a fluffy dessert, and Channing these days is pretty much a dessert. Note: Kate Beckinsale and Len Wiseman at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party in a very close second, because they look like this:
If House of Cards hadn’t put Kevin Spacey back into relevancy, this picture for sure did. Not only did he make it into the tweet that broke Twitter, but he made it into a hilarious meme as well.
Aside from that he actually showed up really well-dressed:
Way to go Keyser Söze.
Finally, for my last category, I was going to go with “Best Date” but it didn’t have the same ring as “Best Arm Candy” so I’m going to use both. This is with no disrespect to women (as I am one) but let’s be real, these dates look GOOD. The expression fits.
Best Date/Arm Candy
Easily put, this goes to Camila Alves-McConaughey tied with Jared Leto’s mom (and brother, but who’s looking?) for their utmost fierce accompaniment of their future-Oscar-winning men. You wouldn’t think it’d be hard to hold your own against Mr. McConaughey when you look like Camila Alves, but being on every red carpet of 2014 has to have its challenges. In a Gabriela Cadena draped pastel pink gown, Camila carries herself with grace and old-school elegance without coming across as matronly or uptight.
On the other side of the scale, I have to give credit to Jared Leto’s mom Constance, who’s a stunning woman and has been accompanying her son in great style all awards season. Taking Helen Mirren‘s cue of being an elegant mature woman in a form-fitting silhouette, Constance allows her son to shine with still looking like a sexy mama herself.
Bonus points to Jared Leto for bringing brother Shannon. Thank you for that.
There you have it, another Oscars passed, another year of celebrity hits and misses, and a first for Armor+Adorn.
Thanks for reading and happy weekend!
